June 24th marked St John Day, an important event in St John Ambulance Cymru’s calendar as the charity uses the day to celebrate the lifesaving work it does to enhance the health and wellbeing of communities across Wales.

St John Ambulance Cymru has a vision – ‘First Aid for everyone; anytime anywhere’, and our people give their time and skills so they can support people at the heart of their communities, providing first aid training, local and national first aid event support, helping people who have fallen in their home, and inspiring the next generation of lifesavers through programmes for children and young people.

Last year our Ambulance Operations made 28,330 patient journeys, covering 722,649 miles. Throughout 2022, the Falls and Fraility Scheme cared for 8,090 patients and travelled 226,261 miles across Wales. The addition of eight new hybrid RAV4 cars has brought St John Ambulance Cymru one step closer to achieving our Strategy 2025 commitment of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

Our committed volunteers gave up their time to ensure people were kept safe at local events like firework displays and Christmas parades, together with large, national events like the Urdd National Eisteddfod, large capacity concerts and the Rugby Six Nations. Our volunteers committed a combined total of 41,260 hours at almost 400 events across Wales. We trained 36,879 people in lifesaving first aid as part of our commercial and community training programmes.

St John Ambulance Cymru Interim CEO Andy Jones, said, We are immensely proud of our people, and the work we do to save lives and enhance the health and wellbeing of communities in Wales, by continuing to be there, when and where we are needed most.”

On Saturday St John Ambulance Cymru will join with priories across the world to give thanks for the selfless service of St John People.

St John has priories in Antigua, Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Cyprus, Dominica, England, Eswatini, Fiji, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St Lucia, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as the Jerusalem Eye Hospital in Israel.
