Responding to the warning from BMA Cymru Chairwoman Dr Iona Collins that the NHS in Wales is ‘unreliable’, Plaid Cymru Health Spokesperson Mabon ap Gwynfor said:

“13 years of Tory austerity and 24 years of Labour mismanagement in Wales have led to poorer health outcomes and a burnt-out workforce. This should be a wakeup call for all and an acknowledgment that there is a health crisis in Wales.

“It is only by being honest about the scale of the challenge that we can truly rise to it.

“Securing the next 75 years of the NHS in Wales requires new thinking and fundamental reform, a move away from trying to manage a problem which is already unmanageable.

“Now is the time for the Welsh Government to take meaningful action by providing a fair pay deal for NHS workers and implement a workforce retention plan to make our NHS an attractive place to work.

“Ministers must also prioritise preventative health measures and ensure a seamless move from health to social care.

“Only then will we secure a happier workforce and healthier nation.”
