·         Over three quarters (79%) of Brits would fess up to cheating on a first date

·         The two most popular first date activities are a restaurant meal (25%) and coffee (24%)

·         Cooking for a partner (35%) takes the top spot of the five most popular love languages in the UK, with gifting coffee also included as its very own love language (19%)

·         Gamophobia grips the nation as almost a third (27%) say most people are afraid to make things official

·         Liam Reardon, 2021 Love Island Winner and EMMI Caffè Latte Brand Ambassador, gives his top dating tips

New research from iced coffee brand EMMI Caffe Latte reveals Brits are baring all, as three in four (75%) talk about ex-flames on a first date.

With the series 10 of Love Island putting the search for love on the agenda, EMMI CAFFÈ LATTE is spilling the beans on the UK dating scene, showing we are a nation of open books. Over three-quarters (79%) would divulge whether they’ve cheated before on a first date, whilst more than three in four (78%) would even talk about how many kids they want.

When it comes to creating the perfect recipe for romance to brew, restaurants appear to be the most popular first date venue (25%), followed closely by a coffee date (24%). More extreme cases show one in 50 (2%) will need to fly out to meet their match as they cite holidays as the perfect location for love to bloom.

Data shows a quick date is a good date as the national average time for an optimal first date stands at 2 hours and 32 minutes. Some even bring a whole new meaning to speed dating, as over a quarter (28%) think first dates are best when under 60 minutes.

Liam Reardon, 2021 Love Island winner and EMMI Caffè Latte Brand Ambassador, shares his tips on how to create the perfect date night:

“1. Get the vibe right – It’s all about creating the right atmosphere and setting the tone for the night so picking a vibey location needs to take number one priority.

“2. Show active interest – Being attentive to your date should also be high on the agenda, so for example making sure you’re really listening to them or even buying them a coffee, will show them you are invested in spending time with them.

“3. Have fun – It can often be easier said than done but try your best to relax and don’t be afraid to be a bit silly. Remember this experience is just as much for you to enjoy yourself as it is for them!”

Looking at the nation’s deal breakers, love languages are crucial as 24% say they would not date someone that has a clashing love language to them. And when looking at Brits’ top love languages, data shows food is the way to our heart, as 35% say a partner cooking for them is their favourite way to experience affection. Caffeine also forms its very own love language as 19% cite a partner bringing them a coffee as their preferred act of devotion.

However not all UK dating experiences are roses and rainbows. Gamophobia (the fear of commitment) is causing 27% to say most people are afraid to make things official. Many singles also appear to have a wandering eye, with 19% saying they often find their dates staring at other people.

When it comes to dating requirements, a quarter (25%) say a potential partner’s star sign is important. For singles that have their star sign under scrutiny, it’s bad news for Scorpios as the fire sign came out on top as the least dateable.

John Mulvey, Head of Marketing at EMMI UK, comments:

“We’re proud to be Love Island’s official coffee partner. As the temperatures soar inside and outside of the villa, it’s great to see Islanders coming together for a chat over an ice-cold EMMI Caffe Latte, just like our research suggests they would at home too.”
