Carmarthenshire County Council is set to take the next exciting step in their ambitious plans to transform the Tyisha area of Llanelli with the search for a partner to re-develop several sites in the area.
A formal Prior Information Notice (PIN) is now live, hosted by Sell2Wales. This provides information on the Council’s vision for Tyisha and details of the sites the Council has earmarked for development to provide homes and facilities that meet the needs of the community.
There are four key sites that feature within the plan, made up of vacant land and derelict buildings. These are:
• Vacant land at the former Four Tys site (Maes-y-Gors)
• Former Lakefield School
• Former Copperworks School
• Clos Sant Paul
Any plans should detail the development and delivery of a mix of housing types and tenures such as affordable housing (shared ownership, occupier owned and social housing consisting mainly of two and three bedroom homes).
Ideas for investment into a local community hub that will help residents to access employment and education opportunities as well as various health and wellbeing resources are also welcomed.
The Council are is also interested in viewing plans that detail improvements to the environment through landscaping, tree planting, suitable waste provisions, storage and making the developments sustainable for the future. Carmarthenshire County Council and Llanelli Town Council’s priority of improving transport links in the area should also be supported within the plans, with developments linking to new and existing cycles routes as well as allowing for sufficient parking to reduce congestion.
Cllr Linda Evans Davies, Cabinet Member for Homes and Chair of the Transforming Tyisha steering group said: “I’m delighted that our plans to transform the Tyisha area of Llanelli have reached this landmark stage. We are now able to seek a development partner to help us realise our ambitious vision for Tyisha which includes developing four key sites in the area, made up of vacant land and buildings.”
“Any plans should take into consideration Tyisha’s rich heritage which includes the former Lakefield and Copperworks school sites, the latter of which was the first primary school in Llanelli and also the site of the first Welsh medium school in the area.”
“I look forward to seeing these major changes in Tyisha come to life and the tremendous benefit they will have to the whole community”.
