Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre in St Davids is hosting a range of fun activities and workshops this summer to inspire people to get creative and re-engage with nature.
The Geiriau Diflanedig – The Lost Words exhibition opened at Oriel y Parc on Sunday 2 July and will be on display in St Davids until 28 April 2024. The main gallery is open daily 10am to 4pm.
From Saturday 22 July-Sunday 3 September a Summer Fun Trail inspired by The Lost Words will give you the chance to find the markers on a sensory trail to create your own nature poem. £3 per child. Includes a small prize.
Wednesdays in August will see a series of artist-led workshops. Tickets are £5 per child. Please note booking is essential for some workshops as numbers are limited.
Wednesday 2 August will see Kate Evans run ‘A bird in the hand’ clay workshops with sessions from 11am-12 noon and 1.30pm-2.30pm, allowing you to make your own pinched clay bird filled with a secret message to nature. Booking essential.
On Wednesday 9 August there’ll be a chance to join Hannah Rounding to use natural paintbrushes and homemade printmaking tools, to create your own hand-printed paper to make collages of plants and animals inspired by The Lost Words. Sessions 11am-12 noon and 1pm-2pm. Booking essential.
Kate Freeman will run Drawing from nature with ink workshops on Wednesday 16 August, from 10.30am-12 noon and 1.30pm-3pm. Studying plants and leaves in our grounds, create marks and brushstrokes with inks and handmade tools in your very own handmade sketchbook. Booking essential.
Wednesday 23 August will see Hannah Rounding return to host Nature monoprints workshops between 11am-12 noon and 1pm-2pm. These will be a nature-based and The Lost Words-inspired art workshop using a really simple mono printing technique you can use at home.
Wednesday 30 August will see a drop-in Nature postcards workshop from 11am-3pm, allowing you to make your own nature postcard from images and finds around Pembrokeshire. £3 per child.

The Geiriau Diflanedig – The Lost Words exhibition explores the relationship between language and the living world, and of nature’s power to spark the imagination. The touring exhibition, which is organised by Compton Verney, with Hamish Hamilton and Penguin Books, brings together, for the first time the original artwork by Jackie Morris alongside the English language poems by Robert Macfarlane and Welsh language poems written by Mererid Hopwood.
Words and watercolours from the book is also on display at Yr Ysgwrn in Gwynedd as part of the collaboration between Amgueddfa Cymru, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park Authority.
