RWAS Long Service Awards for Agricultural Workers 2023

Fourteen agricultural workers from across Wales, who together have notched up over 600 years of service, will receive a Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Long Service Medal or certificate in recognition of their commitment to the agricultural industry at the 2023 Royal Welsh Show.

The RWAS Long Service Award is given to an individual who is employed as an ‘Agricultural Related Worker’ for over 40 years. The term ‘Agricultural Related Worker’ shall be deemed to include certain job roles linked to agriculture, horticulture, forestry, conservation and the environment and in particular in Wales. The employer or nominated worker must be a current RWAS member.

The recipients of this year’s medals are:

  • Alwyn D Arrowsmith, of Libanus, Brecon, who has worked for the late Alec Batanero for 41 years.
  • D Alun T Davies, of Llandysul, Carmarthenshire, who has worked for Mansel Davies & Son at Station Yard, Pembrokeshire for 50 years.
  • Malcom Tom Edwards, of St Nicholas, Cardiff, who has worked for Traherne Farms LTD for 55 years.
  • Glyn Michael Griffiths, of Talgarth, Brecon, who has worked for W R Thomas & Son for 41 years.
  • Richard S Gwilliam, of Broxwood, Leominster, who worked for McCartneys Auctioneers for 60 years.
  • Dennis Hill, of Caldicot, Monmouthshire who has worked for William Peter Waters for 50 years.
  • Alun Dorian Peregrine, of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire who has worked for Thomas & Percy Veterinary Surgeons for 19 years, Percy and Jones Vets for 9 years and Teilo Vets for 12 years, totalling 40 years of service.
  • Eurfyl John Phillips, of Llanfyrnach, Pembrokeshire, who has worked for Mansel Davies & Son at Station Yard for 40 years.
  • Richard Roberts, of Llangaffo, Ynys Môn, who worked for North Wales Engineers for 20 years, and Emyr Evans for 28 years, totalling 48 years of service.
  • Andrew Guy Shackell, of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan who has worked for the Penllyn Estate for 43 years.
  • Roger George Wells, of Cardigan, Ceredigion, who has worked for Mr & Mrs Holmes for 4 years, Messrs Williams for 28 years and Mr D Davies for 9 years, totalling 41 years of service.

A Long Service Certificate is available for those individuals who have already received a Long Service Medal.  An individual must have completed 50 years of more employment.

  • David Michael Pryce, of Montgomery, Powys who has for the late A M Jones and D Maurice Jones at Calcourt Farm for 54 years.
  • Clement Martin Lloyd, Montgomery, Powys who has worked for the late A M Jones and D Maurice Jones at Calcourt Farm for 52 years.
  • David Delwyn Meredith, of Llandinam, Powys who has worked for the Davies family for 63 years.
