Ashmole & Co’s latest Trainee Accountant joined the accountancy firm’s Swansea office last year as the Receptionist! Naomi Boyes had no intention of becoming an Accountant when she started but soon fell in love with the work and has now become a full-time trainee.

Naomi, who lives in Gorseinon, went to Penyrheol Comprehensive school. After leaving school she did an NVQ Level one in hairdressing. She is currently studying for her accountancy AAT level 2 qualification and has one exam left.

“I started helping with the accounts during the summer last year and the busy period,” said Naomi. “It was never something I had considered when I started here but I enjoy doing it and it felt like the natural path to take.”

Day to day with Ashmole & Co Naomi does service charge accounts for management companies, helps with accounts for local sole traders and companies. She also helps with VAT returns and bookkeeping.

Christine Daultrey, Partner in the Swansea Ashmole & Co office, said, “We were delighted when Naomi expressed an interest in becoming a trainee accountant with us even though she was doing a fantastic job as our receptionist already. She has become an integral part of our team in the Swansea office and she also works in our Neath office once a week. It’s been an absolute pleasure to watch her going from strength to strength. It is important as a profession that we help to train the next generation of accountants. Qualified staff members are the lifeblood for the future success of our firm.”

Naomi added, “I’m grateful to Ashmole & Co for giving me this opportunity to train whilst working. I have the Partners and my colleagues to thank for all the help and support they have given me so far. I am constantly learning new things which can be quite daunting and difficult but when I overcome these it is very rewarding and I feel like I have accomplished a lot.”

Naomi loves watching all sports in her spare time especially football, rugby and netball. She enjoys going to the gym and plays netball for Dulais Netball Club, having played for west Wales in the past. Naomi has a younger sister who is just five years old and so she enjoys spending time with her and the rest of the family when she’s at home.
