Ansvar, the expert insurance provider for the charity, not-for-profit, and faith sectors, is pleased to announce Honeypot Children’s Charity as the main winner of its Community Campaign. Honeypot, which has a respite house located in Newtown, Powys, will receive a generous donation of £15,000 to support its mission of enhancing the lives of young carers aged 5-12 years.
Honeypot Children’s Charity is dedicated to providing respite breaks and ongoing outreach support to young carers who selflessly look after their parents or siblings. These individuals often carry heavy responsibilities at such a tender age and often miss out on some experiences their school friends enjoy. Honeypot aims to create memories by giving them a chance to temporarily step away from their responsibilities and enjoy carefree moments during school holidays and weekends.
With a history spanning 27 years, Honeypot Children’s Charity has been a pillar of support for young carers at its fun-filled respite houses located in Powys, the New Forest in Hampshire, and Cumnock in Ayrshire. Each year, the charity supports around 1,000 children, ensuring that each child receives a yearly residential break.
Notably, even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Honeypot adapted and worked tirelessly to deliver support online. Although initially intended as a temporary measure until lockdowns ended, the online service proved to be equally beneficial and has been continued, ensuring that young carers can access support whenever they need it.
The £15,000 donation from Ansvar will play a vital role in furthering Honeypot’s impactful initiatives. It will fund 20 children to experience 3 days and 2 nights of joyous residential breaks, where they can participate in a wide array of activities and simply relish being children.
Additionally, the donation will provide 20 wellbeing grants for families, enabling them to purchase essential equipment that will make a young carer’s life easier at home. These grants aim to alleviate some of the burdens faced by young carers by providing practical assistance and support.
The donation will also fund 20 places on Honeypot’s highly beneficial online activity workshop. This workshop allows young carers to access Honeypot’s support whenever they need it, ensuring they receive the care and guidance necessary to navigate the challenges they face.
Viv Carter, Community Engagement Manager at Honeypot Children’s Charity, commented:
“Thank you so much to everyone from Ansvar insurance for the donation. It makes me emotional to think of the impact it will have on the lives of many young carers. Dinners all together at the table on respite breaks or trips to the seaside are things many young carers will experience for the first time but will become happy memories forever.”
Kelly Barter, Customer Service Manager at Ansvar, led the process of choosing the
Community Campaign winners. She expressed her delight in supporting Honeypot Children’s Charity and their vital work by adding:
“The aim of the Ansvar Community Campaign is to support organisations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. Honeypot Children’s Charity’s heartwarming work has touched countless lives, providing these young carers with the joy, support, and respite they truly deserve. We are delighted to contribute to its mission and help them empower these remarkable young individuals.”
On Sunday 24th September, Honeypot Children’s Charity will be featured as a Radio 4 Appeal chosen charity. The weekly programme highlights the work of charities, and appeals for donations – the programme raised over £2m for good causes in 2021/2022.
