Wales’ only independent cancer research charity, Cancer Research Wales, is urging people to ‘Stripe a Pose’ and support world-class cancer research on World Cancer Research Day, which takes place this year on Sunday 24th September.
The charity is calling on the public to join funded researchers and community groups to show their support for the charity on World Cancer Research Day, by wearing stripes, sharing their pictures on social media using #StripeAPose and donating to Cancer Research Wales: Donate online – Cancer Research Wales
In Wales, cancer is already one of the biggest killers, with the number of people diagnosed set to increase to 230,000 by 2030. Cancer is also projected to become the leading cause of death worldwide, with an increase to 21.6 million new cases globally per year predicted by the same year.
Cancer Research Wales is the only charity wholly dedicated to funding cancer research in Wales, for Wales, with funding paid for solely by supporters. The groundbreaking research they fund has made life-saving impact globally, with the innovative RAMAN blood test, which can detect bowel cancer from a patient blood sample, offering the potential for early diagnosis for thousands of cancer patients.
Dr Lee Campbell, Head of Research at Cancer Research Wales, said:
“Over the last 10 years alone, Cancer Research Wales has funded over 60 projects in and for Wales costing over £17.5 million – the results of which are making a positive impact on Welsh lives today.
“Utilising our striped branding which mirrors the unique DNA barcoding found in us all, Stripe A Pose is a fun way for people all across Wales to play a part in funding hope for tomorrow’s cancer patient diagnosis.“
