Matt McGuinness & the MLC

Llanelli’s Ffwrnes Theatre welcomes Matt McGuinness’ We Are What We Overcome on Wednesday 18th October at 7:30pm.

Combining upbeat music with thought-provoking comedy and stories, We Are What We Overcome is one man’s journey to good mental health via a very bad idea.

Matt McGuinness delivers personal, difficult, and eclectic stories interjected with original songs performed by his live band – Matt McGuinness & the MLC (Mid-Life Crisis). The show moves fluidly thorough a mix of heartfelt stories, self-deprecating humour, and song.

We Are What We Overcome was created as part of Matt McGuinness’ body of work based on his own mental health journey, and his desire to share his experiences to help others. From breakdown to talking publicly about his feelings for the first time at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018, Matt invokes a lasting atmosphere of openness and understanding in audiences wherever he plays.

Matt also hosts a monthly podcast of the same name, sharing personal experiences and discussing a new topic each episode with three friends: a musician, an improviser, and a psychotherapist.  Matt has also written a book charting his personal journey from breakdown to beginning a public conversation about mental health.

Multi-talented band, the MLC provide a fantastic soundtrack that moves between poignant acappella and upbeat rock’n’roll with a sound and style reminiscent of Edwyn Collins, Richard Hawley and Elbow.

The tour is supported by Arts Council England & New Art Exchange and We Are What We Overcome is proud to work with Samaritans.

Tickets are priced at ÂŁ12.50 and ÂŁ10.50 (concessions) and can be booked online at www.theatrausirgar.co.uk and with the box office on 0345 2263510.
