Your many readers should know that according to Gridwatch.co.uk, much maligned coal–fired power stations , which are claimed to be almost redundant, generated up to 3 per cent of UK electricity on a pretty warm day, October 2nd 2023.
To get an even bigger surprise, check the UK coal-fired power station output for 2022 on the web-site, then click to view the “percentages” graph. It resembles stalagmites because coal–fired power stations provided up to 5pc of UK electricity ..
…throughout the year! Yet 2022 had a mild winter ! What happens in future if we have a severe winter and rely solely on wind and solar power? People will die of hypothermia!
Climate Change minister, Julie James wants a Net Zero carbon future for Wales, without even gas-fired power stations ! Yet, she can never get rid of coal-fired power stations , because they remain vital in powering the UK
due to the very erratic , often paltry, nature of wind energy! The next hard winter will really prove it!! Please contact your politicians!
Yours faithfully,
