A new survey, conducted by online party supplies retailer, Party Delights has revealed that around one in six people who live in Wales are scared of demons.

When asked “What type of fictional Halloween creature, if any, scares you?”, 23 per cent of residents in the region answered demons.

Zombies ranked just behind 17 per cent of participants citing the fictional creatures as the ones that scares them most.

Vampires followed in third with 12 per cent of the country choosing the fanged creatures as the scariest. Werewolves ranked next with three per cent while aliens and dragons gained just two per cent each.

Witches completed the list with just one per cent of respondents citing them as the scariest fictional Halloween creatures.

A large portion of the region (35 per cent) said that no fictional Halloween creature scares them and a further four per cent answered “don’t know” to the question.

Nationally, Zombies were also the most popular choice when it came to the survey question with 18 per cent choosing the living dead creatures as the one that they are most fearful of.

Commenting on the survey results, Sarah Allsop, creative manager at Party Delights said: “Wales was one of only a few areas in which zombies weren’t cited as the scariest fictional creature.

“Perhaps people’s fears of demons are born out of their appearances in pop culture. From classic horrors such as The Exorcist to modern incarnations like the Insidious franchise, their presence is rife throughout films in the genre.

“While a hefty percentage of respondents based in Wales did answer that no fictional creature scares them, a nearly one-in-four ratio for Demons is still high. It’s interesting to see people cite that particular creature over the others on the list.”
