Four inspirational Carmarthenshire women who set up an Action Squad to help families in the county supported by Action for Children have raised £13,827 through a charity ball held at the Parc y Scarlets stadium in Llanelli.

Inspired by the work the charity does and high child poverty rates in the county, Kirsty Williams (Kirsty Williams Mortgage Solutions), Sarah Maclean (Teulu Mortgages) Aimee Taffetsauffer (Cartref Estates) and Lauren Edwards (Pass the Keys Carmarthenshire) arranged and put on the prestigious Llanelli black tie ball as part of their drive to give back to the Carmarthenshire community.

The squad said: ‘We had an absolutely wonderful night and to raise almost £14,000 defied all our expectations.  To see 200 members of our business community come together in this way was a real thrill and we’re looking at making it an annual event on the Carmarthenshire calendar.  We’ve pooled together our skills and motivation and put on an event which will make a difference to families in our community, as well as raise vital awareness of the great work that Action for Children do.

‘As four mothers and business women, we’re supporting Action for Children who help protect children and offer support to families across Carmarthenshire. In 2023, 30.6% of children in Wales are living in poverty which just breaks our hearts. We know only too well many families are struggling to afford the basics like food and clothes, and as Mums ourselves, we can’t help but empathise with the struggles of those parents. Children are the future and we are so excited to be supporting Action for Children in enabling them to continue to protect and support children and give them the voice that they deserve.’

Sue Marsden, Practice Team leader at Action for Children’s Carmarthenshire family support services, added: ‘Our whole team have been overwhelmed by the effort that went into this glorious event.  We had a great night and we’re deeply touched that the money raised will help the families we proudly support in the area.  We’d like to say a huge thank you to Kirsty, Sarah, Aimee and Lauren for their amazing and generous efforts putting this event on.’

Nina Rice, Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager for Action for Children, said: ‘Action Squads are a great way to raise money for those in our communities who need it most and Kirsty, Sarah, Aimee and Lauren have certainly been a squad to be proud of.  They have worked relentlessly over the last year to put on a magical night of fundraising, music and dancing and surpassed all expectations.  You can’t underestimate the amount of work that goes into such events especially attracting and involving 200 guests so they deserve huge congratulations.  The brilliant amount of money raised will make a huge difference to the families we serve across Carmarthenshire.’
