Leader of Welsh Lib Dems calls for new minister role to combat Child Poverty

Recently in the Senedd, the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS has called for the introduction of a new Minister for Babies, Children and Young People.

According to a recent article from the BBC, 28% of children in Wales are living in relative poverty.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats are now calling for immediate action on this issue which includes the introduction of a new ministerial role for Babies, Children and Young People whose priority would be to tackle child poverty.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“Child poverty is a disease that is affecting the very heart and soul of Wales, and we must take immediate action.

Not enough is being done to combat this issue in Wales. The Welsh Labour Government do not have any real grasp on a problem which is being fuelled by a Conservative Government in Westminster which simply does not care.

I believe that by introducing a minister for Babies, Children and Young people whose main priority would be tackling this issue, then we would be taking a step in the right direction.

Our children are our future and by protecting and caring for the next generation, we would be building a brighter tomorrow.”

Mrs Dodds  worked in Social care for 25 years before becoming an AM/MS
