Welsh Tory MP stance muddies the water

Recently in the Senedd, the Welsh Conservative party tabled  a debate on water quality in Wales.

The following Welsh Conservative MPs have voted AGAINST amendment to stop water companies from dumping raw sewage into rivers and the sea:

·       Alun Cairns (Vale of Glamorgan)

·       David T C Davies (Monmouth)

·       Stephen Crabb (Preseli Pembrokeshire)

·       James Davies (Vale of Clywd)

·       Jamie Wallis (Bridgend)

·       Simon Baynes (Clwyd South)

·       Virginia Crosbie (Ynys Mon)

·       David Jones (Clwyd West)

·       Robin Millar (Aberconwy)

The amendment was defeated by the Conservative party by a margin of 268 MPs to 204.

The amendment to the Environment Bill would have placed a legal duty on water companies in England and Wales to improve their sewerage systems and reduce the harm caused by the spilling of untreated sewage.

Commenting, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“I am sure that the irony is not lost on those within the Welsh Conservative party who are tabling this debate on water quality in Wales.

How can they honestly expect people to listen when time and time again the UK   Conservative government have shown their blatant disregard for our waterways?

The Welsh Labour government must of course by held accountable for their inaction in dealing with the recent Dwr Cymru scandal, but not by a Conservative party who shed crocodile tears over our polluted waterways.

We need to have an honest discussion on protecting our waterways here in Wales from those with our environments best interest at heart.”
