Recently in the Senedd, the Welsh Liberal Democrats called for more mental health support for farmers and agricultural communities in Wales.

According to recent research from the Farm Safety Foundation, 94% of farmers under the age of 40 cite poor mental health as the biggest overlooked issue impacting farmers.

The party are now calling for the Welsh Government to commit to providing more mental health support to farmers.

Commenting Jane Dodds MS said:

“Make no mistake, our farming communities are facing a mental health crisis, and they need our help.

The extreme isolation and loneliness linked with the long working hours of farm life can cause serious mental health problems for many farmers, both young and old.

These are the people who are responsible for feeding the nation, through wars, and pandemics they have stood strong and supported us all through dire times.

Now it’s time for us to stand by them in their hour of need, as they have done so many times for us.”
