Recently in the Senedd, the Welsh Liberal Democrats called upon the Welsh Government to improve their working relationship with the tourism sector in Wales.
The call comes following a recent revelation by the chair of the Welsh Tourism Alliance that there is a “dire need to restore” relations between the Welsh Government and the tourism industry following “a breakdown of communication.”
According to a report from BusinessLive, tourism adds over £6.3bn annually to the economy whilst also employing more than 172,000 people.
Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:
“I was very concerned to hear the comments from the chair of the Welsh Tourism Alliance about how the industry views their relationship with the Welsh Government.
I have received a significant amount of correspondence from concerned constituents and local businesses who all share the same fears over this erosion of dialogue.
Welsh Labour must focus on rebuilding this relationship as a priority. Tourism is a vital asset to our economy, and we can ill afford to lose it.
The Welsh Government must ensure that they are consulting and cooperating with the tourism sector when they are making policy decisions that will affect the many small businesses at the backbone of our economy.”
