New research, conducted by the experts at West Wales Holiday Cottages, has revealed the best beaches across the Welsh coast for dogs & their owners! The study analysed a range of factors including the number of dog-friendly accommodations and eateries, average temperatures, and water quality, before giving each location an overall score.

Saundersfoot Beach, Pembrokeshire takes the crown as the best dog-friendly beach in Wales – with an overall score of 6.15/10. The beach comes with a strong review score of 4.7 out of 5, and two-thirds of nearby accommodation listings also allow pets. Over a quarter of nearby restaurants are also dog-friendly!
Barmouth Beach, Gwynedd comes in second as the next best beach in Wales – with a slightly lesser score of 6.04/10. Boasting an “excellent” water quality rating and a high review score of 4.8/5, Barmouth Beach is a favourite in Wales.
Llangrannog Beach, Ceredigion rounds off the top three best beaches for dogs –  with a score of 5.90.  The beach also boasts “excellent” water quality as well as some slightly warmer and drier weather, averaging 10.1°C. Llangrannog also has the highest rate of dog-friendly accommodation properties, with 83% of options allowing for furry guests!
Further Insights:
  • Traeth Trearddur and Whitesands Bay earned 4th and 5th place, with scores of 5.83 and 5.80 respectively. Both locations have ‘excellent’ water quality, making them great ‌options for owners with furry friends who like to paddle!

  • The research also analysed the best beaches for dogs across England, with Crantock Beach in Cornwall taking the top spot with a score of 8.23/10.
