Welsh Liberal Democrats leader Dodds MS has slammed Boris Johnson after it was revealed that the former Prime Minister had blamed high Covid rates in Wales on “Singing and obesity”.
Mr Johnson is currently undergoing questioning as part of the UK Covid Inquiry, which is evaluating the UK Conservative Government’s approach to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since the start of February 2020 roughly 197,270 people have died in England from Covid.
Mr Johnson, alongside his Conservative party, have been heavily criticised for their actions during the pandemic, which includes the hosting of parties whilst the rest of the nation was placed under strict lockdown.
Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:
“I am utterly appalled by these comments, that were made at such a difficult time for so many people across the country.
Why Boris Johnson decided to make these appalling comments at such a distressing time is beyond me, but then again based on his track record we shouldn’t be surprised.
This is, after all, the same man who decided to lie and mislead his way through his time in number 10.
This is the same man who abandoned his responsibilities to the nation during the pandemic.”
