The Welsh Liberal Democrats have called on the Welsh Government to provide more funding to farmers.

The leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS has urged the Welsh Government to provide more funding for farmers in their forthcoming budget announcement.

Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“Farming and agriculture are the backbone of not only rural Wales but of our economy, it’s vital that farmers across Wales have our full support.

The lack of certainty farmers face by not knowing until as late as possible how much financial support they will receive for producing some of the best quality food, for maintaining animal welfare standards, and for nurturing our lands, is a huge concern.

Farmers are already under huge pressures and face one of the most challenging outlooks in a generation, we should therefore be aiming to support them as much as possible and not leave them with an uncertain future.

The Welsh Government must get their act together and stop playing hard and fast with those who feed our nation and look after our lands.

Recent cuts to the agriculture budget by the Government are hugely concerning, and the forthcoming budget must rectify this by providing a stable level of funding.

With the right type of funding, farmers can get the resources they need to keep farming, keep producing food, and help tackle the climate emergency.”
