As it’s revealed that Santa Claus consumed 2.4 million units of alcohol on his rounds last Christmas Eve, Asda is encouraging parents to put a low or no alcoholic tipple on his tray with four new no and low products to choose from

Every year, families around the world anticipate Santa’s arrival by leaving out a selection of treats and tipples for the man in red and his fleet of reindeer. Whilst a well-meaning gesture, new data commissioned by Asda reveals as a result of Brits generosity last Christmas Santa drank 2.1 million alcoholic drinks, the equivalent of 2.4 million units.
The research of British parents with children aged under 12 shows the majority (89%) would support a sober curious Father Christmas, and as the supermarket has recently launched three new no and low products ahead of the big day, Asda is encouraging mums and dads across the nation to give Santa an alcohol free tipple to avoid any December 25th ho-ho hangovers.
Thanks to the goodwill of British mums and dads, recent stats revealed that Santa consumed the following on his rounds:
1. 511,691 whiskies
2. 436,701 beers
3 291,134 sherries
4.220,557 wines
5. 216,146 brandies
6. 114,689 rums
7. 83,811 mulled wines
8. 57,344 ports
9. 61,755 sparkling wines
The UK regions that leave out the most alcohol for Father Christmas are the North East, Wales and the East Midlands.
The suggestion comes as demand for no and low alcohol at Christmas time is on the rise. This year, Asda predicts a 9% increase in sales for no and low products year-on-year and has seen a 46% rise in searches for ‘non-alcoholic’ in the last three months.
For those dreaming of a dry Christmas, Asda’s new range of no and low options includes the delicious Extra Special Non-Alcoholic Red Berries Botanical Spirit Drink (£10), made with sweet red berries and fragrant botanicals, the warming Extra Special Non-Alcoholic Rhubarb & Ginger Botanical Spirit Drink (£10) with delicious Nigerian ginger, and the smooth Extra Special Non-Alcoholic Dark Spiced Spirit Drink (£10) with smooth Madagascan vanilla.
