- Audi was ranked as Wale’s preferred car, according to nationally representative survey conducted by Turo
- Land Rover and Nissan ranked joint second place, as German car manufacturers claim top spot
- Almost half of drivers across Wales said their current car isn’t their preferred choice
[21 December 2023]: German car manufacturer claims top spot, as one in ten (10%) drivers across Wales voted for Audi as their preferred car of choice, according to new research by the peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace, Turo.
Some way behind, Land Rover and Nissan ranked joint second, both receiving six percent of the vote each.
Despite drivers across Wales longing for a German automotive machine, the most commonly owned make across the country is a Ford (15%), which is consistent with The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders stating that the Ford Puma is the most sold new car in 2023. This was followed by Vauxhall (13%) and Audi (9%).
Top five favourite cars among Welsh drivers

Welsh drivers are making do with cars they don’t love
Almost half (43%) of drivers across Wales said their current car isn’t their preferred choice. If money were no object, Welsh drivers said that they desired speed and style over all else, with one in five (20%) wanting a sports car, followed by a convertible (12%).
Xavier Collins, Turo’s Vice President & Head of UK said: “Audi’s are among the most booked cars on our platform in the UK, so it’s no surprise to see them rank so highly. But drivers don’t have to be able to own their favourite car to drive it, in fact they don’t have to own a car at all. Thousands of people take to Turo everyday to take the car of their dreams for a spin or even just for everyday activities. We offer the chance to hire specific cars for different occasions, for example for a 4×4 for getting out of the city into the countryside, or a Mercedes to arrive at a wedding in style.”
