Britons looking to boost their nutrient intake in the new year are being told of the top vitamin-rich superfoods.

The wellness experts at Simply Supplements have revealed nutritional powerhouse foods set to be a big hit in the new year.

The foods to stock up on in 2024 include cupboard essentials like potatoes and popular vegetables including asparagus.

Experts are also calling for people to expand their diets to include other vitamin superfoods like sardines, shellfish and mushrooms.

Wellness expert Samantha Greener from Simply Supplements said: “Eating a balanced diet, packed with vitamins and all the nutrients the body needs is important, which is why we wanted to highlight some of our favourite vitamin rich foods.

“These superfoods can be added to a balanced diet to increase vitamin intake in the new year.

“We want to encourage Britons to expand their diet and increase their nutrient intake by eating staples like potatoes and green vegetables as well as superfoods like sardines, cranberries, garlic and shellfish.

Here are Simply Supplements vitamin rich superfoods for 2024:

  1. Cranberries

Fresh cranberries are a rich source of minerals and vitamins. They are especially high in vitamin C, which is essential for the maintenance of your skin, muscles and bones. The berries are also high in vitamin E and vitamin K1, essential fat soluble antioxidants and blood clotting proteins.

  1. Garlic 

Garlic has gained popularity for its many potential health benefits, such as helping to protect against the common cold and supporting normal cholesterol levels. Cocoa powder provides a source of many nutrients, including iron, magnesium and copper as well as antioxidants. A cup of hot cocoa with milk can be a nutritious treat for those looking to boost their nutrients without sacrificing their favourite sweet treats.

  1. Shellfish 

Shellfish are some of the most nutritious animals from the sea, offering a range of B vitamins. Vitamin B12 is particularly present in shellfish, which can contribute to keeping your body’s blood and nerve cells healthy. They also provide iron, potassium, selenium and vitamin C.

  1. Asparagus

  1. Peppers
