  • The Nintendo Switch leads the line, being the most searched console in 33 countries
  • The PlayStation 5 takes second, with nine countries
  • The Xbox Series X was found to be the most searched console in 0 countries

New research has revealed the most searched game consoles in each European country.

The study by gaming site 1337.Games analysed Google searches from 2023 to see what console each European country is interested in the most.

It found that the Nintendo Switch was the most searched in 33 countries, notably France, Spain, and the Netherlands. The console has sold over 128 million units since its release in 2017, with over 28 million units sold in Europe alone. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains the most popular title for the console, having sold more than 57 million copies.

The PlayStation 5 was the most searched in nine countries. Notable areas include Bulgaria, Croatia, and Bosnia, where Sony’s next-gen console leads in popularity. In July of 2023, it was announced that sales for the console had hit 40 million worldwide despite stock shortages throughout the first couple of years of its release.

The study also found that the Xbox Series X was the most popular console in zero countries, which may surprise some. However, the console did beat the PS5 on search popularity in four countries: the UK, France, Hungary, and Poland. Mid 2023 data shows that the console has sold 21 million units.

PlayStation 5 9
Xbox Series X 0

Commenting on the findings, Emre Aksu, a spokesperson from 1337.Games said: “Despite being several years older than Sony and Microsoft’s addition to the current generation of gaming, the family-orientated Nintendo Switch remains on top in not just search popularity but worldwide sales as well. It even saw severe stock issues at the peak of COVID-19 lockdowns worldwide, which was over three years after its release, and sales are showing no signs of stopping just yet. Seeing the sales divide between the PS5 and Xbox Series X is also interesting, as it has historically been an even game between the two.”
