Driving with a toddler isn’t always easy. When they start crying or shouting, it can make driving hard and sometimes even lead to a fine. Here’s what motoring expert Dominic Watt from First Vehicle Leasing says about it and how these situations can end up costing you money.

Distractions Can Be Expensive

When your child is upset in the car, it can take your attention away from driving. This is risky and the police are strict about it. If they see you’re not fully focused on the road because you’re dealing with your child, you might get fined. This fine can be more than £200, and you might get points on your driving licence too.

Keep Your Child Buckled Up

Your child needs to be in the right car seat for their age. If they throw a tantrum and unbuckle themselves, and you get caught, you could be fined up to £500. This rule is there to keep your child safe, but it’s also the law.

Pull Over If You Need To

If your toddler’s tantrum is making it too hard to drive safely, Dominic Watt says you should pull over when you can. If you don’t and your driving seems unsafe because of it, you could get a fine starting at £100. It’s better to stop for a bit than risk a fine or an accident.

Loud Cries Could Lead to Fines

In some cases, if your child is crying very loudly for a long time and it’s disturbing others, especially in quiet areas, you could get a fine for noise. This doesn’t happen often, but it’s possible.

Dominic Watt, motoring expert from First Vehicle Leasing says:

Driving with a crying or shouting toddler is tough, but it’s important to handle it safely. Not just to avoid fines which can add up, but to make sure everyone on the road, including you and your child, is safe. Next time you’re out with your little one and they start to have a tantrum, remember these tips and stay calm. It’s better for your drive, your safety, and your pocket.
