“Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid is delighted to hear minister Jeremy Miles launching his first minister manifesto today with measures focusing on sustainable economic growth and developing skills and training featured strongly. It is great to see both leadership candidates championing green job creation, skills and business support for a more sustainable and prosperous economy.
“The ongoing skills shortage is a frustrating barrier to long-term economic and skills growth for businesses in Wales; their ambitions for growth impacted by difficulties in recruiting suitably skilled staff and a reluctance to invest in training in a low to no growth economy. In Q4 of 2023, only 16% of businesses in Wales increased their investment in training.
“The measures proposed including a national assessment to anticipate future skills needs, incentives for graduates and returning talent, and a review of business support could help foster an innovative Welsh economy.”
