Financial support is now available to develop rural town centre events to attract visitors and increase footfall across the County’s Ten Market towns.
As part of Carmarthenshire County Council’s 10 Towns programme, which aims to support the economic recovery and growth across the County’s rural market towns, this new fund is now open for applications having received support from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
This exciting new offer will provide community-based organisations the opportunity to develop new events that attract visitors to the County’s rural market towns as well as support established events to develop new elements that add value to their current offer. Existing events can apply for funding up to a maximum of £2,000, whilst new events can apply for up to a maximum of £4,000.
Applications are welcomed from organisations who are seeking for support to organise events in the following Ten Town areas;
- Cross Hands
- Cwmaman
- Laugharne
- Llandeilo
- Llanybydder
- Llandovery
- Kidwelly
- Newcastle Emlyn
- St Clears
- Whitland
The fund will help raise the profile of rural towns in Carmarthenshire, by supporting event organisers to stimulate the local economy, increase town football and encourage community participation.
Cllr Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism said:
Our rural towns already offer a vast range of vibrant events throughout the year that bring the community together and provide so much fun for local people to take part in creative activity. Well established events such as the Sheep Festival in Llandovery or the Festival of senses in Llandeilo attract overnight visitors from far afield to stay in our tourist accommodation bringing valuable money into the local economy. After discussions with numerous event organisers, we are delighted to launch this new funding to support both new and existing events this year.
Applications must be submitted no later than 10 March 2024 at 11:59pm to be considered. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of March 2024 and must complete by end of December 2024.
