Thea Meek-Wilson and Carl Wilson have kindly raised £550 for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Glangwili Hospital.

Thea and Carl raised the funds after asking family and friends for donations to the unit in lieu of presents for their daughter’s first birthday.

Faith Meek-Wilson was born six weeks prematurely in November 2022 and spent a week in the SCBU.

Thea said: “Faith is extremely precious to us, and all our family. We were unable to conceive so Faith was the result of IVF. We thought all our challenges were over and were looking forward to her due date in December 2022. However, on 9th November I went into pre-term labour and Faith arrived six weeks early.

“She was instantly taken to the SCBU. We were not sure what complications to expect with a premature baby. We had no idea what to do or think, we were just so worried. The SCBU team looked after us all, settling any nerves we had, answering any questions, offering lots of advice and support and reassuring us that Faith was going to be ok.

“Throughout this time, the entire SCBU team were absolutely amazing, and we could not have asked for more care and support, nothing was too much, no question too silly, everyone was so friendly and caring.

“We are certain that, although Faith is a fighter, she was able to come home sooner because of the care she received in the SCBU. This meant so much to us at the time and we have never forgotten how well we were all cared for there.

“As a result, we wanted to do something to show our appreciation and give something back.

We wanted to ensure that we could help this amazing team to keep supporting and caring for babies and parents in the way they cared for and supported us. We will never forget our

time in the unit and we will be eternally grateful to everyone.

“Thank you to all of our family and friends for supporting us always and to the SCBU team for all their amazing hard work and care.”

Nicola Llewellyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We send a huge thank you to Thea and Carl for their kind donation.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
