Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire – A new initiative, offering outdoor activities led by professionals and free of charge for Pembrokeshire schoolchildren, launches with its inaugural event on Friday, 23rd February, at Fenton Community Primary School, Haverfordwest. Funded by the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this
programme is designed to bolster children’s education and well-being, helping with post-Covid recovery and consistent with the Welsh curriculum.

Adventure Beyond, our experienced delivery partner, has designed a programme tailored to the school’s current topic of the Welsh Princes. 56 children, aged between 7 and 9, will have a go at archery, tackle bow-making, and participate in storytelling around the campfire. The children will be encouraged to come in fancy dress relevant to the topic.

The grant extends the opportunity to benefit from outdoor activities to up to 2000 Pembrokeshire schoolchildren. Activities can be land or water-based with the degree of challenge suited to the children’s ages and abilities, with everything from coastal walking and river canoeing to rock climbing and coasteering on offer.

Peter Ainsworth, the project lead, expressed his enthusiasm, “It’s a privilege to facilitate these outdoor activities, especially post-Covid. This initiative not only supports children’s mental health and well-being but also reconnects them with the outdoors – a much-needed counterbalance to today’s digital lifestyle. As we kickstart these sessions, we’re eager to extend this opportunity to more schools across Pembrokeshire and invite them to get in touch to make a booking.”

Anita Robinson, a teacher at Fenton Community Primary, shared, “These activities are a fantastic opportunity for our students. Thanks to the grant funding, we can offer experiences that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, advancing our pupils’ learning and well-being.”
