Mumbles Rangers 2 – Canton FC. 1

On a sunny yet cold blustery afternoon at the Swansea Bay Sports Stadium, Mumbles Rangers and Canton Football Club tried their best to master the difficult conditions. The bumpy pitch made ball control and accurate passing a very tricky business.

Mumbles Rangers probably shaded the first half of this contest by trying to pass the ball around. However the Canton players managed to get their foot in to break up the Rangers moves and stem the flow of the game.

Canton’s main play maker Jordan Carey tried to inspire his team with his set pieces kicks from corners and free kicks.

Rangers defence easily coped with Canton’s attacking plays with the Rangers defence being well marshalled by Craig Spring.

Rangers striker Chrissy Allen was always a threat and came close to scoring in the first half but his long range shot was well saved.
No score at the break.

The second half saw Rangers step up the tempo of the game and started to create good chances.

Rangers Chrissy Allen broke clear on goal but saw his shot hit the dust bowl in the six yards area which took some pace off the ball enabling a finger tip save to send the ball out for a corner. Chrissy Allen was left in amazement as he couldn’t believe how he had not opened the scoring.

Eventually Rangers got the break they needed. A quickly taken free kick by Craig Spring caught the Canton defence napping and his dink of the ball found team mate Joe Pelosi in space and he simply lofted the ball over the advanced keeper into the unguarded net 1-0

Rangers were overjoyed and a sense of relief amongst the home spectators.
Rangers didn’t have to wait too long before doubling their lead.

The referee awarded Rangers a free kick some 35 yards out from goal in a central position.

Rangers captain Jordan Lloyd-Evans took aim and sent a rocket of shot into the top corner of the Canton goal net.
2-0.

With minutes to go Canton pulled a consolation back but it was the home side that celebrated a much needed win at the final whistle.
