As part of its new luxury offering this Easter, Asda has announced the launch of its first ever show-stopper Easter egg, ‘Cocoa Noir’. Formed of two layers, the blonde inner egg features a metallic bronze glaze, encased in an outer egg made from single origin Peruvian dark chocolate and a layer of smooth hazelnut Gianduja.
Sarah Burns, Product Development Manager for Confectionary at Asda, said, “Easter is a time for indulgence, and this year we wanted to push the boat out even further with our new Cocoa Noir egg.
“More shoppers are embracing dark chocolate eggs than ever before and having been made from the highest quality single-origin Peruvian dark chocolate, the egg is layered with decadent Gianduja sure to delight fans of hazelnut and praline.”
Priced at £15, Cocoa Noir came out on top in the Good Housekeeping Institute Easter Taste Test in the dark chocolate egg category, beating retailers such as Waitrose and Aldi. Showing that a high-end showstopper egg doesn’t need to break the bank, Asda’s luxurious offering is over 40% cheaper than Hotel Chocolat’s Dark Chocolate Easter Egg and 80% cheaper than Fortnum and Mason’s*, per gram.
Embossed with intricate gold detailing, the showstopper egg comes in a stylish black box, making it perfect for gifting, and includes additional golden Peruvian dark chocolate and blonde cream liqueur mini eggs. During the judging process, taste testers loved the flavours, describing the larger egg as, “finely balanced between sweet and bitter,” while the smaller egg, “had a notable nutty hazelnut flavour.”
Cocoa Noir forms part of Asda’s 2024 Easter range which includes a selection of delicious Easter eggs for a range of tastes. Highlights include the Asda Extra Special Extra Thick Honeycomb, Pretzel and Caramel Milk Chocolate Egg, an irresistible blend of extra thick Belgian milk chocolate infused with sea salted caramel flavour and scattered with caramel, honeycomb and pretzel pieces. Or for those with a penchant for white chocolate, the Asda Extra Special Raspberry & Marshmallow White Chocolate Egg is sure to hit the spot with its tempting blend of extra thick Belgian white chocolate studded with a sprinkling of raspberries and marshmallows.
On top of that, Asda is offering a 4 for £10 deal on select Easter eggs, including favourites from Cadbury and Celebrations, until 31st March.
Cocoa Noir will be available to buy in selected stores from the 4th March – the full list is available to view here.
