Mallorca is enriched by its deep historical roots and holds a special place in the course of time. Nevertheless, the destination ensures that tradition and modernity intertwine in its cultural offerings.

The island hosts several events throughout the year that draw in tourists from all over the world, and accommodate for a number of different interests. From captivating art exhibitions to lively music festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Concerts & Festivals

Mad about music? Mallorca is renowned for its diverse calendar of musical events which feature various genres and styles. Live music on the island is full of energy, with outdoor concerts in Mallorca’s idyllic natural surroundings and indoor performances featuring dazzling lights and electrifying atmospheres.

Music festivals are particularly popular in Mallorca, inviting both local and international musicians to play, making the island a worldwide meeting point for music lovers.  For example, the Sons de Nit festival is a travelling festival that promotes social and environmental sustainability, guided by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It showcases a variety of national and international artists who perform in different Mallorcan municipalities, including Llucmajor, Pollença, and Palma and champions cultural diversity and heritage conservation through its event.

Classical music also has special significance in Mallorca, with performances from the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra taking place between September and May.

Mallorca’s deep-rooted heritage is also celebrated through various popular festivities that honour the traditions that are an integral part of the island’s culture.

Visiting Mallorca during Holy Week in March is a fascinating experience that integrates religious customs with local culture. The island transforms into a vibrant stage full of colourful processions, pilgrimages, sacred music, and religious dedication. Visitors can immerse themselves in the special ambience of the streets, where the marches become an authentic expression of faith and devotion. Additionally, Mallorca offers a mix of ancient and modern traditions, with events ranging from solemn processions to lively celebrations where local gastronomy and hospitality can be enjoyed.

On 23rd June, Mallorca celebrates its most fiery festival: the Night of Sant Joan. The evening is full of excitement, with raucous sounds, torches, and bonfires creating a magical atmosphere. Alongside these festivities, there are other activities, such as jumping over waves to purify the soul. Whilst attending, visitors can also sample a delicious range of Mediterranean cuisine.

Mallorca is a true paradise for art lovers, with a kaleidoscopic arts scene across the island, from striking galleries to world-class museums. There are specialised tours which showcase artisanal products, such as pottery, as seen on the Ruta del Fang (Clay Route) in Marratxí. This tour allows visitors to see workshops various clay utensils are crafted, along with the Museum of Fang.

A standout event in Mallorca is Nit de L’Art, which combines the talent of artists and gallery owners in Palma during the third week of September. The city’s old town becomes an open-air exhibition of artworks, complemented by free entry to museums and galleries at night.

Gastronomy

The gastronomic richness of Mallorca is internationally recognised, both for its products’ quality and the island’s exquisite traditional recipes. Throughout the year, various fairs and events occur in Mallorca, such as Be Palma, held between late April and early May, showcasing culinary offerings at over 10 stalls.

TaPalma is an annual tapas and cocktail contest in Mallorca that brings together the best culinary talents of the island.
