Welsh Cycling, the governing body for cycling in Wales, is delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Walker as its new Independent Chair. After a milestone agreement to a change in its articles, Walker was appointed and brings a wealth of experience and a passion for cycling that will be instrumental in steering the organisation through a critical period of strategic change and development.
As Welsh Cycling looks to launch the new strategy, early summer 2024, the organisation is determined to ensure its ongoing relevance to cycling audiences across Wales. Adam Walker’s appointment comes at a time when the sport is experiencing increasing popularity in a range of different disciplines, alongside a challenging financial climate making his leadership particularly pivotal.
Walker, a dedicated advocate for sport and the power it has in grassroots, through to elite performance has a proven track record in leadership roles within the world of governing bodies including Chair of England Volleyball and GB Table Tennis. He has recently stepped down as the CEO of Oaks Consultancy who supported Welsh Cycling with the development of the new strategy, and which sparked Walker’s interest at applying for the position.
Welsh Cycling’s new strategy is designed to address the evolving needs and expectations of the cycling community in Wales. It encompasses a different approach to developing products to empower key partners to deliver increased opportunities, a focus on talent development, infrastructure improvement, and fostering a culture of inclusivity within the sport, with a new look and feel included to be more relevant to a multitude of biking disciplines.
‘I am honoured to take on the role of Chair at Welsh Cycling during such a critical and exciting time for the organisation and the sport as a whole,’ said Walker. ‘I am confident that, together with the dedicated team at Welsh Cycling, we can build on the success of the past and ensure that cycling remains a vibrant and accessible activity for all in Wales.’
Current Chair, Chris Landon said, ‘We are enthusiastic about the wealth of knowledge and leadership that the new Chair brings to the position. His vision aligns seamlessly with the goals of the organisation, ensuring that Welsh Cycling continues to be a driving force in the cycling community’. Welsh CYcling are pleased to confirm that Chris Landon, will remain as an instrumental Board Director with Welsh Cycling and on the British Cycling Board, and we thank him for his continued drive and leadership and commitment over the past few years.
Adam Walker will take up the position in April, 2024.
