Carmarthenshire County Council’s Place and Sustainability Department has recently completed comprehensive reviews of 10 Conservation Areas across the county, approved by Full Council. These reviews signify a significant effort to preserve our heritage while promoting sustainable development.

The Built Heritage Team is proud to announce two seminars scheduled for Thursday, April 25, and Monday, April 29, 2024. These seminars are free of charge and will be conducted online via Zoom, making them accessible to all interested participants.

The seminar on Thursday, April 25, 2024, titled “Homeowners: Changes in Conservation Areas,” will take place online from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. This session is tailored for homeowners interested in understanding the changes that can be made to domestic dwellings within Conservation Areas.

The seminar on Monday, April 29, 2024, titled “For Business Owners: Commercial Properties,” will also be held online from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. This session is specifically designed for business owners operating from properties within Conservation Areas.

Both sessions will cover topics including why Conservation Areas are special, when Planning Permission is needed for changes, guidelines regarding energy efficiency measures and architectural modifications, and where to find further available resources.

The aim of these seminars is to alert residents and business owners to changes within Conservation Areas throughout the county, empowering the community to participate in preserving our shared heritage.

Understanding the planning implications of Conservation Area changes is crucial for homeowners and businesses. The seminars will provide clarity on potential impacts, ensuring stakeholders can navigate planning processes confidently and responsibly. Attendees will be directed to reliable sources for further information and support, facilitating informed decision-making and mitigating potential breaches in planning regulations.

These seminars represent a pivotal component of the long-term strategy to enhance Historic Building Services within Carmarthenshire. By engaging with the community and fostering collaboration, the aim is to safeguard our cultural legacy for generations to come.
