Local student wins 2 medals at Special Olympics

Joshua Davies, 16, competed in Downhill Skiing and won a Bronze and Gold medal at the Special Olympics held in Flogaria, Northern Italy earlier this year.

Josh, a student at Ysgol Heol Goffa competed as part of the West Wales SOGB Ski Team alongside 5 others. The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for people with intellectual disabilities and strives to create a better world by fostering the acceptance and inclusion of all people.

Since Josh’s return to Carmarthenshire, he has enjoyed featuring on S4C, BBC, and ITV!

When asked how taking part in the Special Olympics made him feel, Josh commented:

It made me feel I can believe in myself.

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Director of Education and Children’s Services Gareth Morgans said:

A massive congratulations to Josh on his achievement. I look forward to seeing what Josh does next.

Josh has put his name forward for next year’s Special Olympics Winter World Games, where he hopes to win more medals in his sport.
