“plenty of positives”-Welsh Lib Dems celebrate best ever PCC result

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have announced their best ever result in a Police and Crime Commissioner election in Wales.

The Welsh Lib Dems have managed to gain a 10.3% share of the vote across Wales, a remarkable increase compared to the last PCC election which saw them gain only 5.2%.

The party, who have run candidates in all four areas, have recorded increases in the vote share across the board. With the biggest increases coming in Gwent (11.82% of vote this time compared to 4.27%) and South Wales (11.1% of vote this time compared to 4.6%).

Other areas also saw increases, with Dyfed Powys recording a vote share of 10.1% (up from 8.7%) and North Wales recording a vote share of 8.3% (up from 4.3%).

Party leader Jane Dodds MS has expressed her delight at the results, which bring “plenty of positives” for the party who are hoping for an impressive showing in the upcoming general election.

Commenting, the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds MS said:

“I am delighted with our results in this election, which signals massive progress from us as a party.

These results not only prove that we are a legitimate threat to the ‘status quo’ here in Wales, but they also show our potential as a party to go even further.

I’d like to thank everyone who worked so hard over the course of these past few weeks to deliver these results for us, your continued support and hard work will steer us towards a positive result in the upcoming general election.”
