Suns Out BBQs Out: Millions of Brits set to brave Bank Holiday weather with a barbecue this weekend

Millions of Brits are set to brave the mixed Bank Holiday weather this weekend and enjoy their first barbecue of the year, according to new online search and sales data.

With the mercury set to surpass 20 degrees in some parts of the country over the three-day weekend, data from Appliances Direct shows online searches for new barbecues are up 46% versus the same week last year.

The household appliances etailer has also seen a 60% increase in sales of gas and charcoal barbecues, as Brits prepare to make the most of the sunny spells this weekend. Sales of outdoor heaters have also hit a two-year high, increasing 100% year-on-year, as people make the most of the brighter nights.

Appliances Direct has one of the biggest ranges of BBQs, outdoor heaters and air conditioning units, and has seen significant spikes in interest in appliances as Brits welcome the warm weather.

Nathan Paul, Ecommerce Director at Appliances Direct, said: “We’re a nation of sun-lovers, so when it eventually appears we like to make the most of it. Sales of BBQs and outdoor heaters have surpassed our expectations already but it’s no surprise after the long winter months. We expect to see sales increase in the lead up to, and throughout the weekend as Brits make the most of the two Bank Holiday weekends this month.”

Britons are expected to flock to gardens, beaches, and beauty spots this Bank Holiday however the Met Office has so far shared mixed forecasts for the weekend, with some regions set to see more of the sun than others.
