The under-18s rugby team of community club Llangennech RFC have raised a fantastic £2,127 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital.

The team’s coach, Sherwyn Smith, is currently undergoing treatment on the chemo unit.

Harvey Evans, Captain of the youth team, said: “We took part in a 5k walk during the Park Run on 10th February 2024 at Sandy Water Park, Llanelli with one of the team coaches to show support to Sherwyn as he undergoes treatment for cancer, having had a similar battle last year.

“We wanted to show our appreciation to the unit for taking good care of Sherwyn. Thank you to Park Run organisers and volunteers, all those who know Sherwyn and those associated with Llangennech RFC who contributed.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said: “We want to thank Llangennech RFC under-18s for raising such a fantastic amount for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Glangwili Hospital.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
