The West Wales Sports Partnership has taken significant steps to promote sport and physical activity by appointing its inaugural CEO, Jamie Rewbridge, and naming Kate Williams as Head of Strategic Partnerships and Development.

This new organisation aims to enhance the health and well-being of communities across the region through increased physical activity.

Jamie Rewbridge, currently the Strategic Manager at Swansea Council for Leisure, Partnerships, Health, and Wellbeing, will take up the position as CEO. With over a decade of experience leading strategic change and improvements across Swansea’s sport and leisure sector, Jamie brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to make a difference across the region,” says Jamie. “Sport and physical activity can significantly reduce pressures on our health and social care systems, improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and strengthen community cohesion. The formation of the West Wales Sports Partnership allows us to reassess and enhance regional collaboration with health, education, and other partners.”

Kate Williams will assume her role in June, leaving her position as Head of Sustainability and the Environment at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. With over 20 years of experience in promoting active participation and driving cultural change, Kate is well-positioned to lead impactful partnerships and initiatives across West Wales.

“We have the opportunity to shape the future of sport and physical activity in West Wales. By addressing persistent inequalities, I am confident we can make a meaningful impact,” Kate explains.

Dr. Sue Barnes, Chair of the West Wales Sports Partnership, expressed confidence in the new leadership team:

“We knew we needed high calibre individuals to take us forward as a brand new organisation. Jamie and Kate not only bring a wealth of knowledge of the wider sport and physical activity stakeholder environment but also a real commitment to the vision and ideals of the Partnership.

Outside of their professional roles, both Jamie and Kate are deeply involved in local sports. Jamie enjoys trail running, is a former rugby player and now a junior rugby coach and Junior Club Chairman of his local side South Gower RFC. While Kate is an experienced hockey coach and umpire, as well as vice-chair of Carmarthen Athletic Hockey Club and a board member of Hockey Wales.

West Wales is the second region in Wales to establish a Sport Partnership. These appointments are a significant milestone in transforming how sport and physical activity opportunities are planned and delivered across Wales. The West Wales Sports Partnership is a collaborative effort involving local authorities, universities, regional professional sports clubs and Hywel Dda University Health board. Together they have co-created West Wales Sports Partnership with national partners, including Disability Sport Wales, Urdd, Street Games, and Colegau Cymru.
