A car expert is urging Wales residents to check the pollen filters in their cars ahead of forecasts for high pollen counts this weekend.
Up to one in five people will suffer from hay fever throughout their lifetime and, when pollen levels are high, symptoms can range from sneezing and a runny nose to itchy eyes, throat and ears1 all of which can make driving more difficult and even uncomfortable.
For those that typically suffer in the summer months, experts at LKQ Euro Car Parts have explained the important car maintenance task to ensure you’re not struck by a hay fever attack whilst driving:
“Driving with strong hay fever symptoms can impose a risk to drivers and other people on the roads. Frequent sneezing and itchy eyes can distract you and take focus from the roads, which could result in an accident, whilst antihistamines can cause sometimes cause drowsiness.”
“Ahead of hay fever season, drivers should check whether their pollen filter needs replacing. The pollen filter cleans the air that circulates through the car, removing airborne irritants that can lead to sneezing and itchy eyes. You can easily replace the pollen filter by locating it (they are usually found behind the glovebox), detaching the existing filter and fitting a new filter that matches.”
