Nick Grimshaw unveils train named after Country Music Queen Shania Twain

Broadcaster Nick Grimshaw today unveiled the ‘Shania Train’ – named in tribute to the Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain – ahead of her summer appearances across the Great Western Railway network.

Shania will be appearing at Glastonbury, Chepstow Racecourse and BST Hyde Park in the coming weeks, and a very much impressed Grimmy was at London Paddington to reveal a resplendent GWR train vinyl complete with pink leopard print – befitting of the legendary Canadian singer.

It comes after Grimmy got chatting to Shania on the BBC Sounds podcast Sidetracked with Annie and Nick. The episode previewed her Sunday teatime ‘Legend slot’ at Glastonbury Festival and is part of the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury on TV, BBC iPlayer, radio and BBC Sounds.

In it, Shania spoke of her delight at having a train in Switzerland named ‘Shania Train’. Grimmy responded by suggesting that, as You’re still the one, there should be a UK equivalent which runs to Castle Cary during the festival.

Picking up the conversation on social media, GWR was quick to respond and design a Shania Train vinyl worthy of the singer-songwriter, famous for hits including Man! I Feel Like A Woman; That Don’t Impress Me Much; and If You’re Not in It for Love (I’m Outta Here).

Surprised customers watched on today as Grimmy carefully peeled back protective sheeting to reveal ‘Shania Train’ on the side of Intercity Express Train 802109.

Grimmy said:

“It is actually on. The Shania Train is going to exist in the UK. I cannot believe that my brain has created an actual train. You could be going to Glastonbury riding the Shania Train. So giddy up, let’s go girls.”

GWR Sales & Marketing Director Amanda Burns said:

“As soon as we heard about ‘Shania Train’ it impressed us very much! Shania Twain is a country music icon and this is a great way to celebrate her forthcoming appearances at Glastonbury, Chepstow Racecourse and BST Hyde Park.

“It has been brilliant to work with the team at Sidetracked and help bring this gem of an idea to reality. We’ll be carrying thousands of music goers this year and we hope ‘Shania Train’ turns a few heads as fans flock to what promises to be another unforgettable summer.”
