Dear Editor

Virginia Crosbie was elected in 2019 as the MP for Ynys Môn and enthusiastically tells constituents how hard she works very frequently

Perhaps her greatest claim to fame was getting reference to former 70’s pop star David Cassidy mentioned in Hansard, the official record of parliament, when she said on February 25th 2022, during a debate on the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill:

“Many of us are parents, and we have all been 16, albeit for some of us it is a distant memory. When I was 16, I thought I would marry David Cassidy.  I thought we would have kids called Kylie and Jason and a dog called Freeway. We know how grown-up and responsible we felt at 16, but we also realise just how much we still had to learn and experience at that young age.”

A light hearted reference perhaps, but if we check a few facts we learn that Virginia was born in 1966, so was 16 in 1982, a full six years since David Cassidy’s last record release.  But more shockingly a full four years BEFORE Australian soap opera Neighbours was first aired in the U.K. catapulting Kylie and Jason to household fame, so this simply cannot be true

If we cannot trust our politicians to tell the truth in Parliament there is no hope left for democracy
