The catering team at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli has started a series of fundraising events and challenges to raise funds for the Chemotherapy Day Unit and Bryngofal Mental Health Unit in memory of beloved colleague Karen Hartnell.

Karen joined the front of house team in 2017 but sadly passed away in November 2022.

Members of the team have already taken part in a Boxing Day Walrus Dip, the Llanelli 10K, and a Zip World challenge in north Wales which saw three members of the team take on the fastest zip line in the world.

Fundraising events planned for 2024 include a Pen y Fan hike, a bingo evening and a sky dive.

Catering Manager Tracey Evans said: “The catering team at Prince Philip Hospital has pledged to support Hywel Dda Health Charities over next year and put themselves to the test whilst remembering our beautiful colleague and friend Karen Hartnell.

“We are pledging our fundraising to the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Prince Philip and Bryngofal Mental Health Unit. These are two areas that have supported many of our catering team over the past 18 months, for which we are eternally grateful.

“Our ambition is to raise a commendable amount of funds for our chosen areas whilst pushing our own boundaries and removing us from our own comfort zone!

“Anyone wishing to support our venture through sponsorship or making a donation, please speak with a member of the catering team. Your support is greatly appreciated!”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda Health Board, said: “We want to say a big thank you and good luck to the catering team – what a fantastic way to remember a much-loved colleague and make a difference to our local services.

“The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
