On Friday 5th July, the long-awaited opening of the Hamburg BUNKER will take place. The former Second World War air-raid shelter will open to the public with a hotel and a collection of restaurants in its historic building, whilst also serving as a creative hub for the city.
Originally set to open in 2022, the completion of the BUNKER has been much anticipated, with the building being dubbed as a pioneering landscape architecture project. Within this listed building, both locals and visitors to Hamburg can expect to experience a new cultural hotspot in the city, alongside fusions of flavour at the restaurants and not forgetting the amazing views from the innovative mountain path and roof garden.
Revolutionising Urban Greenery
Sustainability has been at the heart of the BUNKER’s mission, with the repurposing of an old building setting a prime example for cities worldwide. The meticulous planting of the building’s plant facade works in favour of the science that making urban habitats greener helps to reduce the heating of major cities. Around 80 sensors have been installed throughout the BUNKER to measure various data points in order to evaluate the impact of the greening of the building.
Soon opening to the public as part of the launch will be the “mountain path”, a 560-metre-long path which will take visitors to the new five-floor expansion and roof garden on the top of the BUNKER, featuring around 4,700 trees, bushes and plants and a new perspective of the city.
REVERB Hotel: The Heartbeat of Local Culture and Music
Within the building, guests can find Hard Rock’s brand-new hotel, REVERB, the first REVERB by Hard Rock in Europe. Comprised of 134 rooms and suites, this hotel is for modern music lovers and eclectics. Featuring urban design and scheduled events that are focused on local music, food and lifestyle, the hotel will fit in with the artsy neighbourhood of St. Pauli that it’s located within. Whether guests are there for business or leisure, the aim of REVERB is to encourage socialising and a sense of community amongst both local and visiting creatives. Bookings for the hotel are open now here, and rooms are available from €144 per night.
The BUNKER’s Rotating and Signature Eateries
Located on the rooftop will be Green Beanie, one of the BUNKER’s restaurants which will feature gastronomy concepts that change every three months, starting with a fish market theme in honour of Hamburg’s famous Sunday Fish Market.
As for the BUNKER’s other gastronomy highlights, the restaurant La Sala will serve as the heart of the building. With other branches in Marbella and Gibraltar, the new eatery will be based on the Spanish model, with vegetables being the focus of the menu and meat and fish taking their place as side dishes.
Meanwhile, the new bar KARO&PAUL by Frank Rosin will be spread across two floors, with the restaurant on one and the bar and stage on the other. Serving international fusion small plates, the aim of the venue is to provide a colourful and creative experience for guests through its regular live music performances. Constant Grind coffee shop will be the go-to coffee spot for both hotel guests and visitors, with a great space on the roof garden, and offering live music and panoramic views of the surrounding city.
