Welsh Cycling is proud to announce the inclusion of several talented Welsh athletes in the Team GB squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Their dedication and hard work have earned them spots in various cycling events. The Welsh athletes who will represent Team GB are:

 Women’s Sprint

  • Emma Finucane: Emma has demonstrated exceptional skill and speed, making her a key contender in the women’s sprint event. Although this will be Emma’s first Olympics, she has already delivered world-class performances at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. With her outstanding turn of speed and a remarkably mature approach for such a young athlete, Emma promises to be an exciting competitor in some of the fastest racing we will see at the Olympics.
  • Lowri Thomas (reserve): Lowri is an up-and-coming talent in the cycling world, known for her rapid development and impressive performances. She has already made her mark by securing podium finishes at national events and competing in the European Championships. Committing to sprint in 2020, Lowri’s drive to make the Olympics is a testament to her dedication and determination.
Men’s Road
  • Josh Tarling: Josh’s impressive performances in recent competitions have secured him a place in the men’s road and time trial events. Most notably, he won the British National Championships Time Trial last week, showcasing he is in great form and positioning him as a strong contender for Paris 2024. Having proven himself as the best in the world as a Junior, then stepping up to win medals at Elite Worlds and becoming a European Champion, Josh is an exciting athlete to watch. He will be the one that other world-class time trialists will want to beat. Selected for the road race, his powerful engine will be crucial on the challenging course around Paris.
  • Stevie Williams: Known for his resilience and clever tactical racing knowledge, Stevie is set to make his mark in the men’s road event. He has had a remarkable career, including a stage win at the 2022 Tour de Suisse and strong performances in various UCI World Tour events. In 2024, Stevie’s real quality shone through, winning the Tour Down Under in January and the iconic Fleche Wallonne in April. After overcoming a near career-ending injury early in his professional journey, his gritty personality has earned him these impressive performances and selections. The course at the 2024 Olympics suits his punchy nature, particularly over the short, sharp climbs of Paris city centre, making him a formidable competitor when the race comes down to crunchtime.
Women’s Mountain Bike (MTB)
  • Ella Maclean-Howell: Ella’s remarkable abilities in mountain biking have earned her a spot in the women’s MTB event. Recently, she delivered an outstanding performance in the MTB World Cup, finishing in the top 10 and demonstrating her potential to excel on the world stage. This year, Ella has shown real consistency in both XCC and XCO events. By lining up alongside Evie Richards, she will be able to leverage her experience despite only being in her second year as an under-23 rider. It’s an unbelievable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of her!
“We’ve been eagerly anticipating the announcement of the Team GB squad, as our athletes have all worked incredibly hard in recent competitions,” said Darren Tudor, Welsh Cycling’s Director of Talent and Performance Development. Each of these athletes has demonstrated exceptional talent and perseverance, making them true ambassadors of Welsh cycling. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and wish them all the best as they prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics.”
