The introduction of speed limiters being mandatory in cars made and purchased within the EU from 7th July will have an impact on anyone buying a car in the UK. Richard Evans, head of technical services at webuyanycar comments:
“With the majority of Britain’s cars manufactured in European countries, the introduction of all cars made and purchased in the EU having ISA speed limiters will affect many drivers. Speed limiters (which utilise smart speed-limiting technology called ‘intelligent speed assistance’) are becoming increasingly common on UK roads.
“Speed limiters work in a similar way to cruise control as they allow a maximum speed to be set in cars that they can’t exceed. Our research shows that only 6% of drivers think it’s a good idea that manufacturers are fitting cars with speed limiters. And, whilst some drivers may not be happy with the restrictions, bringing the speed limiters in aims to deter drivers from reaching high speeds when driving to make roads safer for all users.
“Drivers exceeding speed limits put themselves and other road users at risk – so it’s important they stay aware of the speeds they’re travelling at to avoid accidents. Our guide on speed limiters will help drivers to understand the technology across cars being made today.”
