Welsh Cycling Celebrates Inclusion of Seven More Athletes in Team GB for Paris 2024 Olympics

Welsh Cycling is proud to announce that seven more exceptional Welsh cyclists have been selected to join Team GB for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This exciting news follows the recent inclusion of five other talented Welsh athletes, further showcasing the depth of cycling talent in Wales. The athletes representing Wales in Team GB are:

Women’s Track Endurance:

  • Elinor Barker: An experienced Olympian, Elinor brings a wealth of experience and talent to the team. She previously won gold in the team pursuit at the Rio 2016 Olympics and boasts numerous World Championship titles and medals. Elinor’s experience, tactics, and physical prowess are invaluable assets for Team GB in Paris.
  • Jess Roberts: A strong contender in the women’s track endurance event, Jess has demonstrated impressive performances in national and international competitions. Overcoming years of injuries, she has shown remarkable resilience and potential ahead of her first Olympics.
  • Meg Barker (Travelling reserve): Meg has been a significant part of the Team Pursuit preparation, winning World and European medals along the way, highlighting her importance in the lead-up to Paris 2024.
  • Anna Morris: After becoming a doctor and working through the pandemic, Anna focused on her Olympic dream and has become one of the best riders in the world at initiating the Team Pursuit. Her power and speed are crucial in getting the team up to speed. Anna is also selected for the road race, where she will play a key role in supporting the leaders in the streets of Paris.
Women’s Road Race:
  • Zoe Backstedt (reserve): Zoe, one of the most promising talents in women’s cycling, has achieved significant success at a young age across various disciplines, including World Championships on the Road, Time Trial, and CycloCross.
  • Elynor Backstedt (reserve): Elynor has shown outstanding results from national to European and World medals. Her performance on the World Tour stage makes her a brilliant domestique, often seen leading the peloton with her team role commitment.
Men’s Road Race:
  • Owain Doull (reserve): Owain brings extensive experience to any team, with a solid track record in both track and road cycling, including a gold medal in team pursuit at the Rio 2016 Olympics. His years of experience make him a true ambassador for Welsh sport.
