Pembrey Country Park, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park, and Mynydd Mawr Woodland Park are celebrating after retaining their prestigious Green Flag status for another year.

The international Green Flag Award is given to parks that demonstrate excellent visitor facilities, high environmental standards, and a commitment to providing quality green spaces.

To qualify for the award, parks must meet rigorous international standards across key areas, including being welcoming, healthy, safe, and secure; maintaining cleanliness and well-managed environments with rich biodiversity; engaging the community in preserving the park’s landscape and heritage; and showcasing effective management, marketing, and communication strategies.

In Wales, the Green Flag Award programme is delivered by the environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy, with support from the Welsh Government. This award signifies a world-class visiting experience for both local people and visitors to Carmarthenshire.

Green space experts volunteer their time to judge the parks, assessing them against eight strict criteria, including biodiversity, cleanliness, environmental management, and community involvement.

Cllr Hazel Evans, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure and Tourism commented:

The award recognises our commitment to delivering quality spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy, while ensuring a thriving natural environment.”

Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy, said:

We’re thrilled to see 92 green spaces in Wales achieving the prestigious Green Flag status, which is a testament to the dedication and hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers. Quality green spaces play a vital role in the physical and mental well-being of people across Wales, and to be recognized as among the best in the world is a huge achievement. Congratulations!”
