The summer holidays are just around the corner, and it’s set to be a busy summer, with over 80% of Brits planning on going on holiday this year.* Many families are looking for a perfect city break staycation this summer.

With so many great cities to visit, it can take time to know which best caters to children and babies. Considering this, the travel experts from Planet Cruise have indexed the best city breaks in the UK for young families.

To help families travelling with younger kids, Planet Cruise has teamed up with parenting expert Isobel Campion to give her top tips to make your holiday easy-breezy!

Isobel’s tips are as follows:

  1. Always Take a Small Foldable Travel Buggy

Even if your child has graduated from using a buggy, it can be incredibly helpful during long journeys, especially in airports. It also doubles as a convenient way to carry extra luggage!

  1. Buy Ride-Along Suitcases and Lightweight Backpacks

Kids love ride-along suitcases, which are almost like tricycles! Pair these with lightweight backpacks so they can carry their favourite items, making travel more fun and manageable.

  1. Bring Used Kids Bedding

Familiar bedding can help your child settle more easily in a new sleep environment, making bedtime smoother during your travels.

  1. Plan the Main Meal for Lunchtime

Children often eat better at lunchtime, so planning their main meal then can ensure they get the nutrition they need and are happier throughout the day.

  1. Spend Quality Meal Time with Just Your Kids

If you’re visiting family or friends, make it a point to have at least one meal a day with just your kids. Breakfast or lunch can be excellent times for this.

  1. Don’t Expect Your Child to Sit Still for Long Periods

Kids need to move around, so take turns strolling and moving with them during flights, at the pool, beachside, or in restaurants to keep them happy and engaged.

  1. Pack Plenty of Familiar Snacks

Snacks can be hard to find abroad, so pack lots of familiar, wrapped snacks in your suitcase to keep your child satisfied and comfortable.

  1. Maintain a Similar Daily Routine

Try to structure each day with a routine similar to the one at home. This consistency can help your child feel more secure and adjust better to the new environment.

  1. Respect Your Child’s Comfort Zone

Don’t push your child to socialise or try new experiences if they’re ready. Allow them to take things at their own pace to ensure a more enjoyable and less stressful trip for everyone.
