What is HHC?

HHC is a lesser-known cannabinoid. It is synthetically produced and has a similar chemical structure to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Some people who use HHC products say that it can get them “high”. There is little research on HHC, but some choose to use it for pain relief, anxiety reduction, and relaxation.

People who use HHC report psychoactive effects, whereas the more well-known cannabidiol (CBD) does not cause psychoactive effects.

HHC comes in various forms. Let’s look at some of the HHC products available online.

Vapes and pens

As with CBD, HHC is available online in vape pens, cartridges, and refill oils.

Gummies and edibles

Again, similarly to CBD, HHC is available in gummies and other edibles. These food items can also include chocolate bars. Online shops may display the number of milligrams (MG) of HHC found in different edibles.

HHC flower

HHC is also available in flower products. You can find HHC flower combined with CBD.

HHC flower is available to buy from websites such as Moonbarguy.

Pills and capsules

HHC is also available in the more straightforward form of pills and capsules.

These products offer a pre-measured dose of HHC and may be more convenient than other products.

Topicals

HHC topicals, such as creams, balms, and lotions, are designed for external use.

These products are applied directly to the skin, where they may be able to help with localised pain and inflammation.

Tinctures

HHC tinctures are liquid extracts that are typically consumed under the tongue (sublingually).

This method may provide quicker and effective relief.

Tinctures often come with a dropper, making it easy to measure and control the dosage. Tinctures can also be added to food and beverages if preferred.

What does the research say?

Research on HHC is in its early stages, and it’s generally advised that it’s too early to say with any certainty about potential effects.

A 2023 article on Nature.com said that, “The scientific studies on HHC are limited, highlighting the need for further investigation.”

What about CBD research?

While there is little research yet completed on HHC, CBD has been more widely studied.

Some people use CBD supplements for managing sleep, anxiety, stress, and pain.

One of the more promising areas is CBD’s potential to help with sleep.

A large case series entitled “Cannabidiol in Anxiety and Sleep” found that of 72 adults, 57 patients’ (79.2%) anxiety scores “decreased within the first month” of use. The authors also noted that sleep scores “improved within the first month in 48 patients (66.7%) but fluctuated over time.”

The authors wrote that, “CBD was well tolerated in all but 3 patients.”

Medical News Today report that researchers are also interested in CBD’s potential effects on other psychiatric disorders, nausea and vomiting, and inflammation.

The CBD-based Epidiolex, a medication to treat certain forms of epilepsy, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Sativex, which combines CBD and THC, is used to help people with multiple sclerosis, but isn’t currently approved for use in the US.
